16 Labourers Kidnapped in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Bomb Defused in Tank District

Pakistani police said that up to 16 laborers were kidnapped by gunmen in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province yesterday. The workers preparing to dive into a construction site on a government installation project were in a vehicle that was stopped in the Qabal Khel area. The captors later dumped them and set the car on fire which they had been using on fire.

Till now, no group has owned responsibility for the abduction of the Nigerian girls. But the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which has a nexus with al-Qaeda and has claimed responsibility for many acts of terrorism in the past is still operational in the area and has been accused of similar acts in the past.

In another operation, the Bomb Disposal Unit safely disposed of a 25 k-g bomb at Mehboob Ziarat Check-post in the Tank district. The bomb was offloaded at a place expected to be utilized by the security forces on movement. The police said that timely intervention by the bomb squad helped to prevent a tragedy.

This province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is a source of enduring threats to regional counter-terrorism endeavors.
