A Drug Trafficking Firefight in France – Injures Five

On October 30, 2024, Thursday a huge firefight took place at 10.45 am in Poitiers in front of a restaurant between rival drug trafficking groups. This massive gun battle has injured five people in which two are teenagers who both are aged 16. It is reported that the place where this incident happened is considered to be a hotspot for drug trafficking. This shootout occurred involving hundreds of people  and youths attacked two officers during this battle. 

Including the two teenagers, a child has been hit by the bullet while the father was holding it within the car in Rennes. The injured infant was found by intelligence services.

Former Drug Related Violences

Drug Trafficking and the gang war related to that is an ongoing issue in France. The major pinpoint behind all these drug trafficking is Marseille. In August, a 10 year old boy and his uncle was shot dead in Nimes, meanwhile a seventeen drug oriented crimes and violences took place in the previous month.

“Trafficking gangs today have no limits. These shootouts are not happening in South America, they are happening in Rennes, in Poitiers, in this part of western France once known for its tranquillity. We are at a tipping point and the choice we have today is a choice between general mobilisation or the Mexicanisation of the country”, said the Interior Minister of France, Bruno Retailleau to broadcaster BFMTV.
