Amazon Workers Potential Strike Ahead of Holidays

With less than 10 days until Christmas, Amazon is facing a potential strike threat by workers during the holiday rush. Workers at two key Amazon facilities at New York have voted to walk out of the job. Today is the deadline by which the team’s union told Amazon to start negotiating.

“We have been asking them ‘Please’ and as of today, we don’t have anything changed,” told an Amazon employee named Luc Rene who delivers packages.

An union spokesperson said, “It represents six thousand workers.”

Luc Rene answered what he and his colleague wanted for Christmas, “ Safety, better condition, better work environment. That’s won’t even be asking for and we don’t feel like that’s something we know, we have to beg for.”

Labour Experts say that the timing of this threat is strategic.  Arthur Wheaton, director of labour studies in Cornell University ILR school, told NBC news, “You strike when you have more leverage from the union. You wanna make sure that the customer desperately wants to get their packages, that puts more pressure on the company to go to the bargaining table.”

An Amazon spokesperson also told NBC news that the company is a large network, “Christmas is not getting ruined for anyone.” It also mentioned that if customers are worried, they can track delivery day and times on their website. It added that “it has hundreds of fulfillment centers in the U.S.”

The people who ordered on Amazon and if it’s on the track, they should not worry but if it’s at  the warehouse and hasn’t moved yet  then a truck coming in has a difficulty in unloading.

“Bargain or We strike” hashtag is currently trending on Social platform X amid the ongoing potential strike.
