Boeing shares see sharp drop after South Korea plane crash
Prominent manufacturer Boeing had to see multiple difficult periods in 2024. Its shares took another knock on Monday at a 4% fall at one stage after a deadly plane crash in South Korea on Sunday. The incident surrounding a Boeing 737-800 is making global headlines.
The cause of the crash is being probed. But experts quickly separated Sunday’s incident from the company’s earlier safety problems. Nonetheless, it cannot be denied that 2024 has been a particularly hard year for Boeing.
737 Max crashes and crippling strikes hit Boeing
For decades, Boeing has maintained its position as one of the giants of aircraft manufacturing. But the past year noted repeated troubles and the company’s stock price has dipped more than 30%. Boeing’s reputation took a hit especially due to the 737 Max crashes.
During autumn, 33,000 machinists demonstrated, crippling the production of the company’s bestseller 737 Max, the 777 airliner and 767 cargo plane. The strike lasted for almost a couple of months, ultimately ending in a pay rise.
