Canada on High Alert as US Election Sparks Migration Concerns

The Canadian authorities have escalated their measures along the border since the US election results with an expectation that there would be an influx of immigrants in the United States. They are due to Donald Trump’s election campaign promising mass deportation and his comments on immigrants ‘swamping’ America and ‘poisoning’ the country’s blood. This is similar to the period between 2017 and 2021 when thousands of migrants including Haitians who lost their status in the US fled to Canada.

Measures of the Border Security have been enhanced

Since the border stretches for 8,891 km, RCMP has stationed more personnel and has put up surveillance equipment in form of cameras, sensors and drones. Sergeant Charles Poirier said they were prepared for that while at the same time warned of difficulties that may arise in case many migrants seek to cross at one time. The current Canadian government under Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland has summoned special ministerial meetings to deliberate on the same.
