While the West has stepped away from dialogue to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian President Vladimir Putin believes China, India and Brazil could act as potential mediators. He said Moscow is open to peace talks over the ongoing Ukraine war.

In the past year, leaders from seven African countries (South Africa, Egypt, Senegal, Congo, Zambia, Uganda and Comoros) proposed a 10-point plan for Russia-Ukraine peace talks and de-escalation of fighting between the two countries. The proposal and initiative of Africa was applauded but it got a lukewarm response. Moreover, the West laughed it off.

Saudi Arabia helda weekend summit in Jeddah, in August 2023, where senior officials from 40 countries met to talk an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, but there was no follow up and quickly fizzled out. Putin said they had almost reached all the parameters of a possible peace agreement with Kyiv. He highlighted that the former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Ukraine authorities to fight till the last Ukrainian, in an effort to achieve a strategic victory. He added that this has also been admitted by the President Volodymyr Zelenksy’s government.
