China requests United Nations to investigate human rights breaches against indigenous women and girls in US, Canada, and Australia

China – A Chinese representative urged the UN human rights mechanisms to continue to monitor human rights breaches against indigenous women and girls in the United States, Canada, and Australia. The envoy made the statements during a speech at the UN Human Rights Council’s 50th session on Monday during a debate with the Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

China is deeply concerned about the issues raised by the Special Rapporteur at the meeting, including violence against politically active indigenous women in the United States, barriers to indigenous women and girls seeking justice in the United States, and genocide crimes committed by Canada against indigenous people, according to the representative.
