The Chinese embassy has once again called out the United States for manipulating Covid-19 origin information for political gains. Since the administration of the former president Donald Trump till now, the US has been hinting towards identifying China as solely responsible for the pandemic.
The Chinese ambassador Chen Xiaodong has held a virtual media briefing on Monday and there the diplomat said that China has absolutely ‘nothing to hide’ about the virus and if required, it is also willing to share any information regarding the virus with the rest of the world.
This was after a media report claimed that the president of the United States, Joe Biden said that China might be withholding some of the critical information on the virus, which is hampering all the road to recovery.
Biden had reportedly said, “Critical information about the origins of this pandemic exists in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), yet from the beginning, government officials in China have worked to prevent international investigators and members of the global public health community from accessing it.”
The US president spoke about it when being asked if he believes that China was planning on making this virus a biological weapon or whether it had escaped from a lab. The US leader answered that he does not consider it to be a biological weapon, but there might be a possibility of it escaping from a lab.
He also stressed that given the rising toll of the pandemic, China is continuing to hide information or show full transparency in its full capacity to the world. To this, the Chinese ambassador said that this is ‘Witch Hunt’. He emphasized that the US is going back on its words and is not recognising this in line with the solidarity shown towards the rest of the world. Chen also said that the timeline of China’s Covid-19 response proves that the country has absolutely nothing to hide and there was no reservation whatsoever from China’s side to share information
