Union Labor and Employment ministry will begin registering unorganized sector workers, including migrants, on the National Database for Unorganized Workers through the e-Shram. It is an online portal, at which the labor ministry has set a target of registering 3.5 crore unorganized workers for Bihar, 1.5 crore for Andhra Pradesh and 1.8 crore workers for Gujarat.

Assam, Chhattisgarh and Delhi have also been asked by the government to complete 1 crore, 82 lakh and 52 lakh registrations, respectively in this time frame. Labour secretary Apurva Chandra mentioned that their team aims to register 38 crore unorganised sector workers spanning construction workers, migrants, street vendors, domestic workers, agriculture sector workers, as well as, for the first time in any country, platform and gig workers.

e-Shram stands as a bridge to connect employers with the workers. It has been handed over to states and Union Territories to register unorganised workers, domestic workers, construction workers, migrant workers, gig and platform workers and ensure that welfare schemes meant for them reach them.
