Harrasment and Racism: McDonald’s sex for shifts scandal making global headlines
More than 700 former staff members at McDonald’s are taking legal action against the fast-food giant amid claims of racism and sexual harassment. The McDonald’s sex for shifts scandal is making headlines in different countries across the globe.
It comes just one year after McDonald’s boss in the UK promised to clean-up attitudes across the fast-food chain’s restaurants. In 2023, he also issued an apology after similar claims came under the spotlight and admitted that he had seen around 400 complaints.
One former employee said managers touched her inappropriately. She first started at the company as a teenager. In a concerning statement, she also claimed that older staff used to place bets on having sex with starters.
“Ensuring the 168,000 people that work in McDonald’s restaurants are safe is the most important responsibility for both us and our franchises,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told The Mirror, highlighting that the company has been putting considerable efforts.
