Who is Hezbollah?

Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and a paramilitary group which was founded in 1992. The founder of Hezbollah is Subhi al-Tufayli Sayyed Abbas Al-Musawi. The allies of Hebollah are Iran, Syria, North Korea, Iraq, Lebanon, Russia and the non-state allies are Amal Movement, Liwa Zainebiyoun, Houthis, Hamas, and Wagner Group. Hezbollah follows the ideology of Islamic Shi’a theology. Shia Muslims believe ‘Ali was the true successor of Muhammad and it later developed into a concept named “Imamah”. It states that the certain descendants of Muhammad which includes the ‘bloodline of Ali’ are the real rulers.

Motive behind Hezbollah Pager Explosions

The motive behind these miserable pager explosions is Israeli Intelligence services. The attack has been executed by the Israeli Intelligence through multiple strategic purposes. Initially, Israel crippled the communication network of Hezbollah. This insisted Hezbollah to switch to pagers for communications. They have been using pagers for communication purposes instead of cellphones because they don’t want their opponent Israel to tap their information digitally. The logistical and strategic operations of Hezbollah have been vandalised by Israel. They have ordered 5,000 new pagers from a Hungarian company using a Taiwanese brand called Gold Apollo. Those pagers were rigged by the Israeli Intelligence service and stuffed with a tiny amount of powerful explosive materials. There is a history for Israel in conducting such similar operations which happened in 1996 – ‘the assassination of Hamas operative Yahya Ayyash using an explosive-laden phone’.

Consequences of Hezbollah Pager Explosions

This Hezbollah Pager explosions attack on Lebanon and Syria was targeted to collapse the Hezbollah operatives in the areas like Beqaa valley, and Parts of Damascus, Syria. The pagers blew up when the users responded to the pager alerts and while clearing the error messages. This led to the detonation of thousands of pagers killing nine people and causing injuries to over 3,000 people. These Hezbollah Pager explosions took place parallelly when Israel renewed their northern border security which is followed by the recent escalation in the region due to the support of Hezbollah to Hamas. Many Hezbollah members were unaware of the unexpected detonations which caused intense injuries, like facial and eye trauma while picking up or interacting with the pagers filled with explosives.

Hezbollah has taken vow for the retaliation attack on Israel, which has raised further tensions in the region of Lebanon and Syria. These Hezbollah Pager explosions prove the weak and vulnerable operational security of that country.
