Horrific: 5-Year-Old Boy Dies At Chicago Migrant Shelter

In a horrific incident at an overcrowded migrant shelter in Chicago, a 5 year old boy died due to fever on Sunday as a number of diseases reportedly rip through the large migrant facility.

On Monday, five other people were also hospitalized from the same migrant center. This included four children under the age of nine and one 18-year-old.

Amid the migrant crisis, the migrant shelter in Pilsen, a neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois, came under fire after the death of a 5 year old boy. The one-year-old girl was also transported to the hospital for treatment.

What happened to the boy?

The 5-year-old boy was identified to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jean Carlos Martinez. He was reportedly suffering from fever. According to a preliminary police report, the 5 year old had a seizure and had been complaining of a fever. He was bleeding and crying for help.

The migrant center in Chicago was originally planned to house 1,000 migrants. However, it is now housing more than 2,400 people. Overcrowded migrant shelters resulted in an increase in the number of diseases.

Jean Carlos Martinez Rivero was an asylum-seeker from Venezuela. He was staying with his parents at the migrant shelter. He had been sick for the past three days with a fever. When his condition worsened, he was taken from the migrant shelter near Cermak Road and Halsted Street to Comer Children’s Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A witness said, “The boy started convulsing and bleeding.” A woman said, “They were still trying to revive him when they took him away.”

While waiting for the ambulance, the boy turned purple. The authorities at the migrant shelter did not give him first aid. There were no first aid kits and no medicine to reduce the fever.

Migrant crisis

A 1-year-old girl was transported to UIC from the migrant shelter with fever and vomiting. Her condition was not immediately known. However, she needed urgent medical care to survive.

A 4-year-old girl was taken to Insight Hospital and Medical Center with a high fever. Later on, an 8-year-old girl was taken to Insight with a fever as well.

The authorities are currently investigating the whole matter.
