Immigration Crackdown Begins in Los Angeles Amid Nationwide Sweep

US immigration officials have begun another round of enforcement operations in the Los Angeles area. The activity follows similar operations in other cities, including Chicago and New York. Activists shared video footage of federal agents outside a home in East Los Angeles where they were attempting to detain individuals. Local residents with megaphones were telling everyone that ICE agents could not come in without a judicial warrant.

Now approximately 150 activists from the Community Self Defense Coalition are marching through the city to help. Federal immigration officers were assisted by other agencies like the DEA, FBI and ATF. The Los Angeles area prefers to identify itself as a city that leans toward being a sanctuary, not to cooperate fully with some federal immigration authorities.

This latest push comes as the Trump administration tries to respond to frustrations over a slowdown in arrests. Since January, over 14,000 undocumented immigrants have been arrested nation-wide. The operation in California has been complicated by a ruling from a federal court that restricts certain ICE tactics.

Still the crackdown is ongoing with various officials focusing on criminal migrants. The border czar, Tom Homan expressed dissatisfaction over the number of arrests claiming many criminals seem to be still out. This surge targets problematic individuals living unlawfully across the nation.
