India joined talks at International Labour Organisation offices in Geneva to explore worker rights such as proper compensation and basic job standards in supply chains. The Indian delegation headed by Ministry of Labour and Employment Secretary Sumita Dawra attended the 353rd ILO Governing Body Meeting in Switzerland from March 10 through March 20.
India proudly presented its labor welfare and social justice achievements by discussing its expanded social protection measures and programs that benefit migrant workers during the meeting. Through the expansion of social protection, the Indian government achieved coverage of 48.8 percent of citizens which exceeded global growth of 5 percent and more.
The government recognized EPFO for 7.37 crore members and ESIC as a service for 14.4 crore workers alongside e-Shram Portal registration of 30.6 crore unorganized workers under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana scheme which benefits 60 crore people as well as Targeted PDS which ensures food security for 81.35 crore people.
India favors holding the Second World Summit for Social Development which will be hosted in Doha Qatar in a later year. The meeting works to make sure the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has stronger social aspects. India endorsed the Initial Global Forum on Migration at the ILO-led Global Coalition for Social Justice and became a significant partner in worldwide labor events.
Through the ILO platform India wants the organization to help migrant workers gain better protections while having labor and social security deals with other countries. Because of its large number of migrant workers and large remittance payers India urges governments to create professional-based migration systems together.
