International Human Solidarity Day: The Significance of Building a Hopeful Society
Today is celebrated as the “International Human Solidarity Day” around the world. ‘December 20’ of every year has been recognised with this significant commemoration of solidarity between the humans. The United Nations has quoted its importance in a lists which includes unity in diversity, insist/remind the respective governments to stay committed to their international agreements, encouraging all the possible ways that promote solidarity, and the initiatives for the eradication of poverty.
“There is no stability without solidarity and no solidarity without stability”
The above statement which was delivered by the former President European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso strengthens value of solidarity among people of all the nations.
Establishment and Concept of International Solidarity Day
Post the commencement of the twenty first century the world has undergone an impactful globalisation which opened the doors of challenge to manage the rising inequality, discrimination and separatism around the world. Therefore, the United Nations General Assembly established the ‘International Solidarity Day’ in December 22, 2005 by resolution 60/209 which recognised solidarity as a fundamental & universal values and its first observance was on Decemeber 20, 2006. During the process of establishing this pivotal day the UN General Assembly pledged to eradicate the poverty with the World Solidarity Fund.
The concept behind this hopeful day is to promote peace and security, human rights, social and economic development.
