Global – In recent years, there have been many inquiries about vacancies. One of the most common questions people ask when looking for a job is whether customer service is a good career.

The answer to this question is ambiguous because consumer services is not really the only career path. It covers a number of areas and job profiles that would be of interest to many people.

To give a more specific answer, we need to explain the different types of home services, the number of jobs available in the country, the largest employers, current market trends, and the pros and cons of entering the home service market. Let’s start with the basics.

What is consumer service?

The service sector of the economy is divided into three main parts: business services, public services and consumer services. Business services are targeted at businesses, while public services and consumer services are provided to individuals. Consumer services are any intangible services that are produced and consumed at the same time. Intangible services are things that do not have a physical form, such as experience. Examples of consumer services are all around us, including education, healthcare, insurance, restaurants, travel, and utilities. But is domestic service a good career? This is a more difficult question.

Quick note: Consumer services are sometimes confused with customer service, which is a service provided to a customer before, during, and after a purchase. The customer is the buyer of the product, while the consumer is the actual user of the product. Consumer services are the provision of services to individuals.

Financial consumer services refers to services offered to end consumers or personal financial advice provided to consumers and business owners by financial experts.

Four main categories of consumer service

Retail and wholesale services. Retail and wholesale services refer to businesses that sell goods or services to the public. They fall into two main categories: retail and wholesale. The retail business includes everything from large box stores to mom and pop stores to e-commerce. Wholesalers buy goods from distributors and manufacturers. They sell goods to retailers, who in turn sell them to customers.

Leisure and hospitality services. Leisure and hospitality consumer services are services that provide a specific quality of life to individuals, including food, lodging, event planning, theme parks, and recreation. These services are an integral part of the local economy, for which tourism is the main industry. For this reason, this sector is sensitive to seasonal fluctuations. Competition between hotels and travel companies is fierce.

Health and social services. Medical and social household services include any work in the health care system. These include jobs in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and community health centers.

Education. Educational consumer services offer services to students. It can mean anything from elementary school to university. Students are increasingly seeking counseling and other services to help them get the best possible education, making this a rapidly growing sector.

Consumer services stocks have been hit hard during the 2020-21 Covid-19 pandemic. As people have become more comfortable traveling and dining out, this trend has reversed somewhat, but travel spending is still below pre-pandemic levels. Household savings will rise in 2022 thanks to stimulus payments, lower interest rates and a better post-pandemic job market, with much of that money spent on services rather than goods.

Number of jobs available in consumer services

Consumer service is one of the largest sectors of the world economy. Nearly 50% of all jobs in the United States are in the home service industry. But since there are many different jobs available in this category (from dry cleaners to neurosurgeons), it is very difficult to determine the exact number of vacancies.

For example, a job in education includes everything from teaching elementary school students to earning a PhD. students to college counseling and student loan refinancing. Another large sector is retail and wholesale, which includes jobs such as accountants, salespeople, and logistics specialists.

According to a report by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, retailers and customer service representatives are the two most common occupations in the consumer service industry. They account for more than 6.9 million jobs.
