Italian labor ministry warns against ‘digital gang-master’ threat for migrant workers

ItalyItaly Italy – The Italian labor ministry has issued a warning against the attack on migrant workers in the name of ‘digital gang-master’.

On Wednesday, Labor Minister Andrea Orlando said that there is a major risk of a new form of exploitation against the migrants in Italy under the supposed Related Posts

As per the statement, it was clear that the government is aware about how the new gig economy is affecting agriculture with the creation of “digital gang-masters”. He explained that the technology which is being used to organize housing and transport for temporary workers actually works on algorithms.

It, in a way, is hiding the phenomena that are pretty similar to that of a traditional format of gang-master system of exploitation. It was largely avoided because of the one sided benefits but recent years have seen that the same pattern is once again coming back. He addressed the issues while speaking at a conference on ‘Quality of work in agriculture’ which also had Agriculture Minister Stefano Patuanelli in attendance. In his speech, the official said, “Making the gang-master useless is the best strategy to adopt.”
