manipur biometric data collection for migrants from myanmar starts today
According to the state Home Department, the campaign to capture illegal immigrants from Myanmar using their biometric data started on July 29.
The Superintendent of Police for each district in the state received a letter from the Manipur Home Department prior to the start of the campaign.
Peter Salam, Joint Secretary (Home), stated in the letter that he was required to refer to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) letter No. 25022/102/2018-F. I dated 29.05.2023, in which it was mandated that the campaign to collect biometric information from unauthorized immigrants in the state of Manipur be finished by the end of September 2023.

In addition, he stated that on July 26, 2023, the Home Department had organized a training and handholding program for all DCs and SPs on the biometric capture of illegal immigrants.
Salam stated that all district superintendents of police are hereby requested to launch a campaign for the biometric collection of illegal immigrants from Myanmar in the State immediately in order to have it completed by September 2023.
‘The National Crime Records Bureau (NBRC) team, which the MHA has sent to train and support state government officials, will help and direct the biometric capture exercise that will take place at the Foreigners‘ Detention Centre in the Sajiwa, Imphai, East district on July 29, 2023, starting at 10:00 AM.
The Joint Secretary added that districts in need of additional guidance and training could send their concerned officers to watch the biometric data collection at the Foreigners’ Detention Centre.
