migrant caravan heading for us from mexico shrinks as donald trump clinches presidential election

Mexico’s migrant caravan on the route to the US in hopes of a better life had shrunk to about half its original size on Thursday as several people doubted their possibilities after former US President Donald Trump triumphed in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Trump clinched the election after a campaign that promised large-scale deportations of undocumented migrants and a return to fast-tracked deportations to Mexico. He represented Republicans and Kamala Harris, the ruling Democratic Party.

The caravan had apparently shrunk to 1,600 people, from 3,000 as the people set out from the southern Mexican city of Tapachula on Tuesday. Just over 100 people asked for help from authorities to return to Tapachula. The other migrants’ updated route is unclear.
