Migrant Workers Excused From Quarantine Period To Support Christmas Rush In England

Christmas fervor is in the air and migrant workers are in high demand. Seasonal workers are being needed in large numbers in England and are going to be excused from a 14-day quarantine period even after they arrive from various parts of the world. Seasonal workers come to the UK in large numbers every year to earn a living.

Some rules have been put in place to ensure there is no spread of the Covid-19 virus amongst the rest of the population. For starters, migrant workers will be required to form cohorts and live in restricted premises.

The need for migrant workers was given a green signal by the Department of Transport, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England. This is primarily to aid poultry farmers and dairy producers to help them mitigate the large demand of products at Christmas time.

However, this does put food and migrant workers’ lives to danger as Covid-19 might go unchecked in some workers who will not be allowed a quarantine period. Earlier in the year, it had been reported that may migrant workers, working on exotic vegetable and fruit farms, were living in despicable physical conditions without any proper medical or hygiene facilities available to them.

Meanwhile, the food industry is outraged against import of food from the US, especially poultry and meat items. There are major concerns over food quality standards owning to the fact that most workers working in the US factories are not allowed to take toilet breaks and forced to wear adult diapers creating major concerns over human rights violation and food contamination.
