‘Not My Presidents Day’, ‘Deport Musk, Dethrone Trump’ – Demonstrations rage across US
On February 17, thousands of protesters took to the streets across the US to protest against President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. This happened on the annual Presidents Day, making headlines across the globe.
Protesters expressed concerns about the Trump administration’s efforts to slash federal spending, criticising his efforts to dismiss federal employees. They also protested against Musk – part of DOGE (seeking to make different federal institutions more efficient).
People demonstrated in major cities, not afraid of freezing temperatures. In Florida and California, local media reported hundreds of people participating in “Not My Presidents Day” protests.
In Phoenix, people assembled outside the Capitol. Security blocked access to the building after some tried to enter it. In Boston, hundreds of protesters marched from the Statehouse to City Hall, chanting slogans against Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
