More than 1 million people across Lebanon have been forced to flee ongoing and deadly Israeli airstrikes across the country. Several of the healthcare personnel have also been displaced and numerous health centres have been forced to close due to the fighting.
The Middle East crisis is deepening. Israel has promised to retaliate after Iran fired hundreds of missiles on Tuesday as regional tensions deepened further a day after Israel said it started a ground invasion in Lebanon to counter the threat from Hezbollah, as per reports.
The UN Secretary-General Guterres continues to be deeply concerned over the humanitarian repercussions of the continued bombing by Israel and rocket fire from Hezbollah, his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stressed on Monday.
Israel promises strong retaliation for Iranian attack
Briefing correspondents in the US, Dujarric noted the UN chief’s call for de-escalation, an immediate ceasefire and “the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701.” Some 100,000 of the displaced have reached neighbouring serious, as per UNHCR.

In Tuesday’s attack, Iran said it targeted military bases in Israel. For the first time, the country used hypersonic Fattah missiles – that can travel five times faster than the speed of sound. The US has also promised strong consequences for the attack.
