stellantis cuts 900 us jobs as trump’s auto tariffs take effect
Stellantis advises 900 US-based employees of furlough and shuts Mexican and Canadian facilities because Trump’s new trade tariffs force these actions. Antonio Filosa who leads the Americas Division at Stellantis informed staff about temporary factory changes till the firm determines how trade policies will impact their running operations.
The new auto import tariffs introduced last week to the world automotive sector triggered major operational problems across the market. The Stellantis stock dropped by 9.3% during New York trading on Thursday mainly because they assemble half of their US vehicles such as Jeep models and Ram trucks within US borders.
The White House says taxes on imports will create more US factory jobs and pay raises, but opponents say these policies ignore how North American car parts production depends on each other. The car manufacturing business has major problems adapting to these tariffs since imports make up half of all car sales in the US.
