All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy workers arranges the protest at Chachal highlighting their grievances which is longlasting for many years that are affecting their working conditions. The allege of these workers are low wages, extended working hours, no assurance or lack of job security, and irregular payments of salaries. They have anomaly with the managing organization, GVK EMRI, for belittling the labor rights and health service quality. They also accused for the inadequate funds to maintain the ambulances, fuel, and it consequences in the poor services.

“Due to inadequate workers in the service, both people and existing employees have to face the brunt. On the day we take our week-off, the needy remain deprived of the service. Though the service should run 24/7 across the state, poor staff strength leads to the service being available for only one shift at several locations”, said the Union President Pranjal Sharma. 

He express his grievance that the demand of all the employees have been voiced for almost 12 years but they couldn’t find any progressive changes for their demands.

What are their demands? 

  • Increase the number of workers (current employees 2000-3000)
  • Six staff members for each ambulance. (currently only 4 members causing extra workload)
  • Three EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) technicians and three pilots.
  • Raise in wages, & job security

The Secretary of the union, Asif Hussain alleged that the work of these ambulance employees are allocated 12 hours per day, which is against the basic right of an employee in India,

“However, according to labor law, work hours should be of eight hours. And the workers are not getting payment for the extra work done, which is an injustice to the worker. Moreover, many-a-times we do not get refunds for servicing of the vehicles”
