The UN General Assembly Adopts the Resolution Prepared by Russia

Since 2005, the Russian Federation has been submitting a resolution with seven four points, along with the support from a group of authors from various regions of the world to combat the glorification of Nazism. Their resolution points out some of the pivotal incidents which took place around the world which glorifies the practice of Nazism against the children, women and innocent people.

Initially, their efforts and the resolution were recognised and approved by the Third Committee of General Assembly (they focus on Social, Humanitarian and Cultural affairs), followed by the implementation of amendment to adopt the resolution by the UN General Assembly who highlighted that ‘Russian Federation is trying to justify the need to conduct a special operation by fighting the glorification of Nazism’ (this information has been mentioned in BFM.RU). To make the amendment effective they conducted voting in which 63 nations supported it, and it was opposed by 41 nations whereas 50 other nations had abstained themselves from this event.

On Wednesday, the 47 third Committee Resolutions was adopted by the UN General Assembly with 119 majority of the votes received from the UN nations who supported the resolution whereas 53 nations opposed which included Japan, Germany, Italy, USA, Ukraine, and Canada and 10 nations abstained.

“The results of the vote clearly demonstrated the continued support of the international community and its commitment to eradicating these phenomena. The fight against this evil is one of the most important tasks of the UN, which was created as a response to the horrors and crimes of Nazism and fascism”, said the Russian Deputy Permanent Representative of the UN, Maria Zabolotskaya.

She added that the effort to eradicate the nazism, racism, and xenophobia has been strengthened with the adoption of resolutions and the impactful support of UN nations around the world.
