TVVP Contract Workers to Stage Protest Over Salary Dues on February 19
The TVVP contract workers intend to start a protest outside the TVVP Commissioner’s property on February 19 to demand payment of their unpaid salaries that have built up over time. On February 19 approximately 4,000 contract employees from various parts of the state will carry out their action at the TVVP Commissioner’s office because they haven’t been paid for extended periods.
The Telangana Medical Contract Employees and Workers Union (TMCEWU) conducts a one-week strike through its AITUC partnership to express problems. On Monday the union members gave formal demands for salary payouts directly to TVVP Commissioner J. Ajaya Kumar. TMCEWU State General Secretary M. Narsimha announced to the gathering that starting February 18 contract workers will gather at the TVVP office in Hyderabad to protest due to non-payment of salaries.
The active demonstration reflects the difficult money situation for healthcare contract workers in Telangana State. Staff at different state medical facilities continue to provide their essential work without receiving their regular paychecks which causes increasing anger and money problems for them. Participants in the Gherao event are taking increased action because they want their wages to be paid on time.
