UK to Ease Visa Rules for AI Experts to Boost Tech Industry Growth

The UK is preparing to liberalise its visa policies of AI experts from around the world in the new bid to boost its position on the emerging AI market. The scheme, outlined in the Government’s AI Opportunities Action Plan released on Monday, will focus on graduates of recognised organisations like IIT and Carnegie.

Tech entrepreneur Matt Clifford’s plan draws attention to how new approaches must be established for graduates from some of the world’s premier AI universities like IIT and Carnegie Mellon University. The plan also tackles issues regarding visa charges and procedures because these have emerged as some of the critical factors discouraging start-ups from hiring talents from other countries. Sir Keir Starmer has said he will back all of the recommendations in Clifford’s report, including a promise to ‘unblock’ the challenges facing AI companies in the UK.

In terms of technological development, the Prime Minister underlined further government support for data centers, timely planning consent for data centers, and proportionate and evidence-based policy for artificial intelligence. This initiative represents a complete turnaround from the previous year’s policy of the Conservative government’s approach of clamping down on visas to decrease the number of legal immigrants.
