UN agencies raise serious concerns about humanitarian situation in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria

Relentless fighting in the besieged Gaza Strip continues to cause immense destruction and trigger displacement, according to a note issued by the UN Spokesperson’s Office. Many people are unable to upload basic food.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is a major cause for concern. It is necessary that public infrastructure such as schools and hospitals remain protected and spared from attacks. Thousands of people are taking shelter in these facilities.

Prices of basic food are skyrocketing in Gaza. Despite access restrictions and insecurity, different aid organisations are putting substantial efforts into assisting those in danger as the crisis deepens. The note highlighted that Israel continues to deny aid missions.

Conditions remain dire in Lebanon and Syria

The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has stressed that any actions threatening the fragile cessation of hostilities must cease. The UN peacekeeping mission is urging both Israel and Lebanon to stop any actions that could affect the fragile ceasefire.

In Syria, the UN and humanitarian partners are offering assistance to people in need. Cross-border aid supplies from Turkey continue. Since the start of the year, at least 777 UN aid trucks have crossed into the territory from Turkey.

Conditions remain dire at displacement camps. Humanitarian partners report that most families in displacement camps are looking for return to their areas of origin. But a lack of adequate services and infrastructure, and the presence of explosive remnants, pose problems.
