Union Leaders Called to Champion Workers’ Rights in Cambodia
The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in Cambodia has called on union leaders not to politicise their duties to defend employees. These remarks were made by Secretary of State of Ministry of Commerce Nguy Rith while addressing the Congress of National Union Alliance Chamber of Cambodia where he appreciated the professional working and legal framework of NACC.
The congress was a turning point for NACC since Kim Chansamnang became NACC’s president for the sixth term. In his speech, Rith focused on the topic of Industrial Relation where workers and factory owners should be on good terms and thus the workers should be protected. He pointed to Cambodia’s growing union environment, elaborating on how unions work with independence showing that Cambodia recognizes many professional associations.
Here are some of the recommendations which Rith made for union leadership;; proper management, and; adequate information on labor laws. The newly elected president Chansamnang assured of improving the activities of NACC through increasing cooperation with the Labour ministry and civil organizations. He also disclosed his intentions on the training schemes the company would undertake with a view of enhancing its human resource skills as part of NACC’s overall human capital development.
