Workers to stage two-day strike at Munich Airport over wages 

Workers are to launch a 48-hour strike at Munich airport demanding higher wages.

A two-day strike by employees is likely to cause huge delays and cancellations for travelers at Munich airport on Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28.

Security workers and ground crew, along with others employed in the public sector, will be on strike under the  Led by the Ver.di trade union, the strike involves security staff and ground crew, as well as other employees within the public sector. The airport has warned travelers that this might severely affect flight operations and advised them to check flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.

Why Are Workers Striking?

The Ver.di trade union is advocating for higher wages, better working conditions, and more paid leave for public-sector workers, as the negotiations affect more than 2.5 million workers across education, administration, and airports.

Similar protests in Düsseldorf and Cologne-Bonn were staged on Monday earlier due to the public sector wage dispute, establishing what would follow.

Munich Airport: An Important Hub of Lufthansa

Munich Airport is Germany’s second-busiest airport after Frankfurt. It is a key connecting hub for international travel, with several connecting flights to Asia passing through Munich; disruption to air travel here would have far-reaching effects.

The union representative Manuela Dietz mentions that Munich Airport had to close completely during the same strike two years ago. However, the final say will be made by the competent authority on airport operations.
