Workplace injuries have increased in SpaceX, an American spacecraft company owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk. His company has failed to protect the vulnerable workers. He reportedly stopped employees from wearing yellow-colored safety clothes because he doesn’t like bright colors.

Many workers at SpaceX suffered due to crushed limbs, amputations, electrocutions, head injuries and eye wounds. One employee also lost his life because he was not wearing safety clothes.

Reuters news agency documented at least 600 previously unreported workplace injuries at SpaceX, highlighting the plight of the workers. Employees routinely skipped basic safety procedures as they raced to meet Elon Musk’s deadlines for Mars mission.

What happened to employees at SpaceX?

SpaceX employees have accused Elon Musk of not applying safety procedures at the workplace. He did not allow employees to wear yellow-colored clothes for safety purposes. Ex-supervisors also revealed that some workers at SpaceX were told not to wear yellow safety vests when Elon Musk was at the workplace.

Several employees suffered due to workplace injuries at SpaceX facility in McGregor, Texas, the United States. LeBlanc, a relatively new employee, who had retired nine months earlier from the U.S. Marine Corps, was pronounced dead due to head injuries at the workplace.

Federal inspectors with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) said that Elon Musk’s company failed to protect LeBlanc and violated workers’ rights.

Later on, the company made seven specific safety improvements at the workplace, including more training and equipment for the employees.

Reuters documented at least 600 workplace injuries of SpaceX workers since 2014. More than 100 employees suffered cuts or lacerations, 29 employees suffered with broken bones or dislocations, hands and fingers of 17 employees were crushed, 9 employees suffered with head injuries, 1 employee reported skull fracture, and 1 employee reported traumatic brain injury.

Workplace injuries at SpaceX also included 5 burns, 5 electrocutions, 8 accidents that led to amputations, 12 injuries at unspecified body parts, and 7 eye injuries. More than 170 workers suffered strains or sprains at the workplace.

It is important to safeguard the rights of the workers at SpaceX.
